Young women from across Leeds spent an inspiring day with Enlivio Health volunteers as part of an initiative to help bridge the gender gap in the digital and technology sector.

Year 12 students from Elliott Hudson College, Garforth Academy, Lawnswood School, UTC Leeds and Leeds City College were invited to the Girl Tech Plus event to help them discover their potential and build the confidence to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).

Created by West Yorkshire non-profit organisation Ahead Partnership and supported by Leeds-based health technology firm Enlivio (formerly EMIS), the event helps young women explore their options after finishing education. The day included workshops, speed networking sessions, and inspiring speeches and career stories from industry leaders.

“It has been a fantastic day, it’s incredibly encouraging to see the girls so engaged and enthusiastic about their futures. Having started out here in Leeds, we’re proud to help these young women build confidence to pursue their ambitions within digital and technology. It’s vital they have access to the right opportunities, role models and support to help them realise their potential and we were delighted to be part of that.”

Zeeka Simmons

Senior Sustainability Analyst, Enlivio Health

Girl Tech Plus stemmed from Girl Tech, a series of national career days aimed at Year 8 students to encourage them to explore STEM subjects. This is the second year it has been expanded to Year 12 students through Girl Tech Plus.

“By bringing education and industry together, we hope to break down barriers, challenge stereotypes and show girls that a future in tech is not only possible, but full of opportunity. Students gained valuable insights into the digital world and the wide range of opportunities available to them. They also had the chance to connect with women working in the industry, hearing about their experiences, career journeys and advice for those looking to follow a similar path.”

Annamaria Stewart

Project Manager, Ahead Partnership
